For more than twenty years, Heartbeat International has faithfully served the indigent and ill using Pacemakers as Peacemakers. As a non-profit dedicated to relieving pain and suffering, our goal is to improve the quality of life and forge lasting bonds of friendship, understanding and goodwill amongst all nations.

- Reached plateau of saving over 8,500 lives using Pacemakers as Peacemakers (2007)
- Heartbeat International amongst top five local non-profit organizations nominated for WEDU - Be More Awards Non-Profit of the Year. (2006)
- Ranked "Best in America" by the Independent Charities of America (2005)
- Dr. McIntosh becomes first recipient of the American College of Cardiology International Service Award for work establishing and developing Heartbeat International (2002)
- Dr. McIntosh presented American College of Cardiology Distinguished Service Award for profound contributions to Medicine, specifically through his dedicated work and leadership of Heartbeat International (1996)
- Dr. McIntosh awarded Distinguished Service Award by North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology for role in establishing and leading Heartbeat International (1993)
- Received a Presidential Citation for "Outstanding Services to the Community and for Finding Innovative Solutions to Public Problems, thus earning the right to fly the "C - flag" ….We can. We care. (1986)
